Distinguished Fellows, Members, Residents, and Colleagues,

As we step into 2026 the landmark year marking the Golden Jubilee (50th Anniversary) of our beloved West African College of Physicians, it is with immense pride and renewed commitment that I address you in this inaugural edition of our Chapter’s E-Newsletter.

Established in 1976 at the continental level, with the Nigeria Chapter following closely in 1977, we have grown to become the largest and most vibrant chapter in the College. Today, we lead in postgraduate training and certification across Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Community Health, Family Medicine, Laboratory Medicine, and Psychiatry producing specialists who serve Nigeria, West African region and beyond with distinction.

This jubilee year offers us a unique moment to reflect on our legacy of excellence while charting an even bolder future. Abstract submissions are now open for our 50th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference (AGSM), scheduled for July 5–11, 2026 in Ibadan. This historic event will celebrate 50 years of medical excellence, innovation, and leadership in healthcare across West Africa. I urge every Fellow and Member to submit research, attend, and contribute to making this gathering unforgettable.
